Mulbury’s purpose is to help reduce landfill by recycling various materials into homeware. Mulbury’s owner, Gerard Melder, was previously a builder by trade. He saw endless amounts of timber and other materials being thrown out on a daily basis. He thought that there is surely a way to recycle all these materials to stop so much waste being poured into our tips.

Gerry started a part-time project of making furniture, homewares and picture frames from all the timber from his building sites and sold them at local markets around Melbourne.

They were an instant hit and over 20 years later, Mulbury continues making these picture frames.  Mulbury has since added fair trade recycled products to it’s list.  Today our signature product is our rescued timber picture frames of different styles. We continue to sell more and more picture frames every year, as people are now considering the environment when making lifestyle choices.

When you purchase a Mulbury product you are helping reduce landfill, stop global warming and preserving our forests for future generations.

Mulbury are one of my favourite sustainable businesses – started by Gerard well before it was trendy to used recycled timbers, the business has stood the test of time and continues to grow. Their products are second to none and their ethics are wonderful

20 years (before the War on Waste) ago Gerard Melder had the foresight to recycle the timber he saw being thrown out or burnt. Good ideas together with sound genuine business practice always wins. Well done Gerard and fantastic to see Mulbury still going strong and continuing to grow.
Wonderful exciting products with gorgeous one-off pieces sourced; when I visit Mulbury I make sure I give myself plenty of time to browse through all the innovative ways waste is being recycled and see the many, many fantastic pieces Gerard has in his showroom for sale.
Worth the trip to Highett! Such a unique shop!

I have been aware of the wonderful ethical Australian business, Mulbury, for several years. My daughter introduced me to them by entering me into a competition which I was lucky enough to win. My prize was three beautiful little frames, made so perfectly from recycled materials, Australian hardwoods. Since then, I have followed them on Social Media, and greatly enjoyed the beautiful objects and materials that they offer for sale. In addition, I have learned quite a lot about history, for example, about the ancient cultures of India, and about the history of the timbers that they salvage and repurpose. So far my experience has been limited by distance, as I live in South Australia. I hope one day to visit their shop. Currently I enjoy following their inspirational feed on Instagram. Highly recommended for their ethical business, and for the quality of their products.

I love beautiful timber products, and I am always looking for the recycled option when buying – so Mulbury was a very attractive option when buying frames. I ordered a custom driftwood frame from them and I will admit I am pretty fussy about details, I like lots of character in my wooden pieces. This however was not a problem for Gerard and the team at Mulbury. They went above and beyond to get me the results I wanted. Communication was excellent, they never left me wondering what was going on with my order. When supply was limited Gerard sent me images of the options of what pieces of timber were available. The resulting frame is stunning. I would definitely recommend Mulbury for both product and service. I will definitely be ordering from them again.
