Business Category: Florist
I am a flower and foliage artisan – working from seed to stem. I make posies, arrangements, large installations and wreaths.
I carefully source all my materials to ensure they’re Australian grown, preferably South Australian grown. Ever curious of the process from seed to stem, I’ve developed a rapport with local growers to better understand when the freshest produce is available. I select what is available week to week and do not choose imported flowers.
I grow a small amount of seasonal flowers at home. Gardening teaches me about the inevitable process of working with living things – that decay and death are never far. I ponder this deeper insight into the seasons in my everyday life and hence, the unpredictability of what materials will be available. This influences my eclectic style, which collates fresh flowers with textured foliage and dried materials.
I adore textured foliage, berries, seed pods and even elements whose true beauty starts in the early stages of decay. I believe we are too quick to remove all the elements of an arrangement. To extend the vase time of an arrangement is one sustainable way to appreciate flowers as a commodity.
I keep paper and plastic wrapping to a minimum and recycle any waste, including composting all my garden clippings and shop waste.
As I grow as a business my connection to a sustainable ethos becomes cemented in these ideals and values.
