Cleaning, most of us don’t really love it, although I must say I get great satisfaction on the day I clean the house and if I wasn’t so busy and stressed trying to squeeze it in, actually quite enjoy it! Anything that can make the work easier and be better for the planet and our own health, is a winner! Do you have a regular cleaning routine or fave products?
The Eco Max Brushes Kitchen Range some of which are available in our store here, is an environmentally-friendly, biodegradable and entirely handmade range of products, that utilize waste products and natural materials to replace plastics in the kitchen.
Handmade using Fair Trade principles in Sri Lanka, all the components are unbleached organic materials that are kind to the planet.
Coconut fibre – a waste product from the husk of coconuts. Coconut has a natural anti-bacterial so it won’t become mouldy and remains smelling fresh.
Sisal – an unbleached fibre from the Agrave Sisalana cactus
Rubberwood – from rubber production when the tree has reached the end of its productive life
Alistonia timber – off-cuts from the building.
Even the timber sealant is non-toxic which means its animal and child friendly too and the wire is galvanised so it won’t rust. PLUS at the end of their life you can be put them into your compost bin where they will break down naturally leaving only a piece of wire to recycle when you spread your compost.
Using Fair Trade principles all the handmade components use natural unbleached materials, such as the Alistonia timber and sisal or waste products, such as the coco fibre from coconut husks and rubberwood a waste product from rubber production. Even the sealant used on the timber is a non-toxic toy paint sealer so it’s animal and child-friendly and the wire is galvanised so it won’t rust. But what makes them so special and why choose fair trade and natural fibres?
A healthy choice – Scrubbing your vegetables rather than peeling keeps all the natural nutrients that are found close to the surface. The natural fibre brushes have no nasty chemicals and even the sealants used are non-toxic. They are all plant based fibres and Coir also has the advantage of a natural resistance to fungus and mites.
A responsible choice – By choosing natural fibres you are supporting developing countries and helping to fight hunger and rural poverty. Almost all natural fibres are a product of agriculture and most of them are grown in the developing world. By choosing fair trade you know that the workers are being paid properly and that there is no child labour.
A sustainable choice – Natural fibres are a renewable resource. They are also carbon neutral: they absorb the same amount of carbon dioxide they produce. During processing, they generate mainly organic wastes and leave residues that can be used to generate electricity or make ecological housing material. And, at the end of their life cycle, they are 100% biodegradable.
How fab!! More of the ranges coming to our store soon – Hop on our store here to grab some and happy cleaning!
